Dominic Raab, Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Goverment visits Three Rivers Academy

On Friday 27 April, the MP for Esher and Walton, Conservative Minister of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government was attending a 14-19 network meeting with Heads and Principals from Elmbridge Secondary schools and Sixth Form colleges. Heads were delighted to have the opportunity to raise with him a number of important concerns including the pressures around post 16 funding, teacher recruitment and retention plus essential support for students with additional needs. Mr Raab listened attentively and gave reassurances that these issues would be heard at a higher level.

The talks were combined with a tour of the new school building, which opened its doors to students in February 2018. As part of the first-class accommodation, the visitors were shown the state of the art science laboratories, fully interactive classrooms and top level sports and performing arts facilities. The building incorporates a large light atrium with specialist classrooms providing a fully inclusive education for students and opportunities to welcome local businesses and the wider community.

Anne Louise Payne, Head of School at Three Rivers Academy said “We had the pleasure of hosting the talks today and welcome Dominic Raab to our school. We are very proud of this inspirational building in which our students are thriving.”

Following the tour, Dominic Raab commented “I was delighted to be shown round the new school building at Three Rivers Academy this morning. During my tour, I was shown the state of the art facilities including the theatre, dance studio and modern classrooms.

I am pleased that Three Rivers, like all of our schools in Elmbridge, will benefit from the government’s new National Funding Formula. Based on this year’s data, schools in Elmbridge will receive a projected total increase of £2.7 million in funding if the NFF were applied in full using current pupil numbers – an increase of 6%. Three Rivers Academy would receive an extra £44,000 per year which is great news”

Three Rivers Academy became part of The Howard Partnership Trust in September 2016 and has made rapid progress in increasing better outcomes for all its students. There is a commitment of every THPT school in ‘bringing out the best’ in young people of all abilities and aptitudes, so increasing their life chances.
