ARTiculation Talk at National Gallery Conference

On November 25th, Yr 13 student Alex West delivered her ARTiculation talk on Ed Rusha’s painting ‘The Music from the Balconies’ at the National Gallery. The talk formed part of a conference promoting the subject of Art History and included a range of speakers. Alex was one of only three students who spoke on the day, having been invited by the Roche Court Institute to promote the ARTiculation competition.

Mr Berriman went along to give Alex support and to find out more about how Art History might be delivered in our school. Alex has been offered a range of opportunities since getting through to the semi-final stage of the national ARTiculation competition. She has been keen to take up as many of these opportunities as possible. One was the offer to apply for a place on an Art History A-Level Saturday School course held in various London gallery locations. We are pleased to say that she succeeded in this and is now thoroughly enjoying the course –and building up a host of valuable contacts! Alex’s tutor and fellow students were all present on Saturday and cheered her performance after it finished.

Congratulations to Alex for being given the honour of this invitation and well done for performing her talk one last time – this was one of her best performances! We are really looking forward to seeing her (and all the other students’) talks on Wednesday 29th November during this year’s ARTiculation Prize Internal Heats.

History of Art Opportunities

The conference Alex talked at served to raise awareness of Art History A-Level and the teaching of Art History generally. It also promoted two other competitions which we will support at Three Rivers Academy. Always good on a CV or a personal statement, these are open to students in both KS4 and KS5 and we would urge anyone interested to contact Mr Berriman or another member of the Art Department.  Links to more details can be found below.
