Into Film Festival Trip
Four of our Y12 Media Studies students took a trip to London with Mrs Herbertson on Friday 10th November to attend a special screening of Ken Loach's most recent Palme D'Or winner, 'I, Daniel Blake' at the Empire Haymarket. The event was organised as part of the Into Film Festival 2017, and the screening was followed with a question-and-answer session for the students with starring actor, Dave Johns.
The film itself was moving and thought-provoking, dealing with the reality of life on benefits in 'austerity Britain' and it was fascinating to hear Dave Johns speak afterwards. Dean asked him a couple of really good questions about his politics and those of the film, and we all learned more about the nature of independent film productions in comparison with big-budget Hollywood productions. Dave Johns was illuminating about Ken Loach's methods of working and how he generates "true emotion" with his actors. We all were interested to hear how important he considers youth involvement in political action, and a cheer went up for his views on Brexit...!
Overall, it was a really enjoyable day (you can't go wrong with lunch at Nando's either!) and well worth the time out of school.
