Homework

Homework is an important part of the learning process and should be used to extend and enrich students’ learning outside of the classroom. Homework should be purposeful, varied, adapted to students’ needs and help students develop the ability to learn and think independently.

Homework is set on Frog, which enables all stakeholders to see and track homework set and relevant completion dates. This allows students to plan their homework so it is completed to the very best of their ability.

Students should:

  • check the homework section of Frog on a daily basis
  • complete all homework tasks to the best of their ability and by the due date set
  • ensure ‘hwk’ is recorded on the top left-hand corner of any homework completed
  • use a title and date for each piece of homework
  • utilise the allocated homework time effectively
  • find their class teacher before the due date to discuss the homework if they do not understand it or need something to be clarified

Parents should:

  • regularly look at the homework section of Frog to see what homework has been set
  • support their child to produce homework to the best of their ability and by the due date
  • provide a suitable area at home where their child can complete their homework
  • liaise with their child’s teacher if they believe that additional support is needed

Take Away Menu

Departments may utilise ‘take away menus’ for homework setting within KS3.  This ensures students are receiving a range of demanding but exciting homework tasks.  Teachers are expected to guide students to the appropriate level of difficulty to ensure sufficient challenge is achieved.

Homework Club

There is a supervised homework club Monday-Friday in the library from 3 – 4pm open to all students. Students attending have access to ICT and will be able to get support from the member of staff on duty, if required.

Non-Completion of Homework

Should students fail to complete homework the following process will apply:

KS3/4

If a student fails to submit homework by the deadline set by the teacher or if the work submitted is not of the required standard, the student will be issued with a 45-minute homework detention.

KS5

If students within the sixth form fail to hand in any homework set to the required standard, they will be expected to complete a study session with the relevant teacher at the teacher’s discretion.
