Homework

Homework  is  an  important  part  of  the  learning  process  and should  be  used  to  extend  and enrich students’ learning outside of the classroom. It should be purposeful, varied, adapted to students’ needs and help students develop the ability to learn and think independently. It should allow  students  to  consolidate  and  revisit  previous  topics  (interleaving)and be  an opportunity for parents to engage with and support their child’s learning, without the need for them to be subject experts.

Students should:

•check their Teams assignments on Office 365 on a daily basis

•complete all homework tasks to the best of their ability and by the due date set

•ensure ‘hw’ is recorded on the top left-hand corner of any homework completed and use a title and date

•utilise the allocated homework time effectively

•find their class teacher before the due date to discuss the homework if they do not understand it or need something to be clarified

Parents should:

•monitor  the  weekly  Guardian  email  to  assess  whether  their  child  is  completing homework and support in this process

•support their child to produce homework to the best of their ability and by the due date

•provide a suitable area at home where their child can complete their homework

•liaise with their child’s teacher if they believe that additional support is needed

Parents will be sent a summary of Teams assignments on a weekly basis.

Take Away Menu

Departments may utilise ‘take away menus’ for homework setting within KS3.  This ensures students are receiving a range of demanding but exciting homework tasks.  Teachers are expected to guide students to the appropriate level of difficulty to ensure sufficient challenge is achieved.

KS5

Students enrolled on A Level and Vocational courses (Level 3) are expected to complete approximately five additional hours of personal learning in each of the subjects they study.

This will include homework, extended research tasks, going over notes and additional reading.

Homework Club

There is a supervised homework club Monday-Friday in the library from 3 – 4pm open to all students. Students attending have access to ICT and will be able to get support from the member of staff on duty, if required.

Non-Completion of Homework

Non-completion of homework includes work which does not meet an acceptable standard. Should students fail to complete homework the following process will apply:

KS3/4

If a student fails to submit homework by the deadline set by the teacher or if the work submitted is not of the required standard, the student will be issued with a 30-minute homework detention which will be recorded on PARS/Insight. Students set detentions may hand the work in late and this will be recorded as late submission and the detention will be removed.

KS5

If students within the sixth form fail to hand in any homework set to the required standard, they will be expected to complete a study session with the relevant teacher at the teacher’s discretion.
