Modern Foreign Languages
At Three Rivers Academy, MFL lessons aim to enable students to communicate in real life situations in which they might realistically find themselves whilst in France, Spain, Latin America or when speaking with people from any French or Spanish speaking countries. Students will also develop skills in working with others collaboratively, problem solving, memory techniques, creativity and communicating effectively as well as developing their understanding of other cultures.
Key Stage 3
In Year 7 and 8 students have the exciting opportunity to study both French and Spanish in ability groups. You will learn how to talk about yourself and your family in Year 7 and your free time and holiday activities in Year 8.
You will develop your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in both languages through lots of engaging activities.
In Year 9 you will have the opportunity to continue with one or both languages and you will start the GCSE course. You will learn to talk about holidays you have been on, your school and the customs and traditions of French and Spanish speaking countries. You will also have the chance to participate in our very successful trips to Spain and France.
Key Stage 4
In Years 10 and 11 it is highly recommended that you study one or both of the languages to GCSE level. You will learn how to talk about the media, relationships and global issues and you will be assessed through speaking, listening, reading and writing. Do you hope to have a career in travel and tourism, the media, journalism, sales and marketing, customer support, education or translating and interpreting? The knowledge of a foreign language would be an advantage for furthering your career in any field and some universities and colleges may require this as a condition of entry.
After your GCSE, you can continue with one or both languages to A level. The course offers the opportunity to study contemporary language topics such as the environment, racism, and media. At A level you may also study a film or literature in the chosen language. For more information please contact Mrs Zambanini Head of Department via email at: email@example.com
