Media Studies

The Media department will bring out the best by promoting a deeper understanding of all types of media texts to ensure students can critically analyse any media they see on a day-to-day basis. This is crucial in a world where we are constantly bombarded by the media.
We aim for students to not only understand the technical elements of media, but also to gain a wider understanding of the social, cultural, historical, economic and political contexts of these products. We want students to be able to decode the representations of various genders, ethnicities, issues and events around the world and to be able to explain the origin of stereotypes in media products. We also aim to equip students with the ability to create media products of their own through purposeful constructions of media language, representation and genre. Our curriculum is designed to give students a wide range of knowledge and skills that will provide them with skills for further education, their career and life.
